Decatur Athletic Club Yoga

Beginners are welcome!  We spend extra time in each class with beginners while the more advanced students can work at their own pace.  Please don’t feel intimidated if you are a beginner.  We will be patient and encouraging.  We offer modifications for all stretches and poses. 

  Please wear warm, comfortable, loose clothing to class.  Bare feet are recommended, but not required

 Please attend regular yoga classes to prepare for the advanced yoga classes.

 

 

 

Class Times

 

·      Classes will focus on the mind/body connection improving your mental and physical health.  It will enhance inner silence, harmony, and peace  of mind.  Excellent cross-training routine for all.

 Yoga is wimpy- Yoga demands concentration, strength, determination and stamina.

Yoga is boringTo the outside observer, there does not appear to be much action, but  a 45 minute routine can provide a tough workout for nearly every muscle in the body.

Yoga is only for those who are flexibleYoga increases flexibility. The more stiff you are, the more you will benefit.

Yoga is for the young and fit– Everyone can benefit from yoga, older adults in particular.

  Yoga is too difficult—Properly taught, yoga is noncompetitive and strongly emphasizes self acceptance.

 Yoga isn’t strengthening– Muscle mass, tone, and definition are all enhanced through yoga.

Yoga is a religion– Yoga is not a religion and it’s practice is not based on any particular belief.   We do not chant.

Yoga doesn't relate to the rest of my lifeActually, the whole point of yoga  is the rest of our lives.  It incorporates the “fitness for life” philosophy

 

Basic Stretching: Improves muscle tone and flexibility  and reduce the chances of injury

Strength building: Improves strength and stamina

Deep Breathing : Improves circulation, brings oxygen to vital organs for healing, cleanses and detoxifies the body , and strengthens the respiratory system

Balancing : Improves posture, body alignment, and concentration and eliminates muscle fatigue

Relaxation and Meditation: Reduces stress by quieting the mind, helps overcome many stress related ailments, improves concentration and ability to focus, invigorates and refreshes both body and mind
